The Importance of Connecting With "Your" People

Published February 14, 2020, by Bonnie Schutz, PACE - TRS CEO

As an entrepreneur and businesswoman, I have run my own company outside of corporate America for almost three years now. I have concluded that it is paramount on my road to success to find "my people" when I am seeking VAs to join our team, procuring and signing on new clients, growing my referral network, adding new vendors, building my social circle, and so on. Too much valuable time is wasted when connecting with people who just don't jive with you. Not to mention, literally detrimental to your health (this falls to self-care and self-love). Take care of your mental health/emotions, align with the right people, and your work doesn't feel like work anymore.

Don't bring into your world someone that brings you down or stresses you out. Be choosy and be happy!

I feel like I need to be pickier these days in regards to whom I spend my time alongside. I have always been one to give just about anyone a chance and invest my time in people. After all, I am known as a "people person" all the way! There are seldom those with whom I don't get along. However, I have found that tapping into my female intuition or listening to my gut has paid off. I am in a new headspace now, where I am not desperate to connect. I know whom I want in my circle, both personally and professionally. Through trial and error and that feeling or thought of, "Oh, they'll come around once they get to know me," I have discovered that is no longer true. I, for one, am going to be ever mindful of my gut and instincts. I have been on this earth nearly 52 years now and may just know a thing or two.

On this Valentine's Day, a day of love, I choose "self-love." (Of course, my amazing husband and children will get my unfounded love today, and every day, too!). I have been so fortunate to meet people and connect with amazing humans in the last few years while developing and growing this business of mine. People have dipped in and out, and that's ok. I intend to continue on the path I'm on. I will keep bringing into the circle those I feel will compliment me and perhaps help me achieve my goals. I'll weed out those that cause me undue stress or unwanted "feelings." Life is too short. I've learned that the hard way, having lost four very close people to me last year, in 2019. Why waste any time on negativity or negative people? I am here with my servant nature to nurture my relationships and genuinely help people in whatever way I can. If I'm sincere, I am only now getting a better understanding of what self-love means. You hear about it all over the internet these days. Although I may not be doing it the way others are, like through yoga and spa treatments, and days off, I am doing it MY way. I am choosing to surround myself with people that give me a feeling of calm comfort. These are the people that I revel in and who feed my soul.

Make it your mission to laugh. Every. Single. Day.

How important is self-love & self-care? VERY important! Think about how brief our time here on earth is. Think about those you've lost and those you currently have in your life. Let's make an impact together. Let's live life and do business with intention & purpose, and with those that make us happy. If we exude passion in all that we do, and with everyone, we interact with, oh, the rewards we'll reap!
